The extension of beach concessions: a relief for the sector

The recent decision by the Council of Ministers to extend beach concessions until 2027 has been welcomed by Unimpresa. According to president Giovanna Ferrara, this measure represents a crucial breath of fresh air for tourism operators in the maritime sector, during a period still marked by economic uncertainty.

This extension grants current concession holders an additional three years to plan for the future, carefully evaluating financial aspects and necessary investments to participate in future bids for new concessions.

The risk of speculation in tourist ports

However, Unimpresa points out that this extension could be undermined if adequate measures are not taken to counter speculation in tourist ports and docking areas. Ferrara called for the creation of a national coordination body to carefully review port regulatory plans, with the aim of preventing decisions that could harm the economic balance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the sector.

The case of Talamone port

Unimpresa also raised specific concerns about the Orbetello case, where a bid was approved during the August holidays to transform the Talamone docking area into a tourist port. Ferrara criticizes the lack of transparency and urgency in the process, which could create monopolies detrimental to users and local businesses.

The association is asking the municipal administration to withdraw the procedure and reconsider the project to reduce tensions among citizens.

Unimpresa’s position: a call to the government

Ferrara concludes by stressing that, while the extension to 2027 is positive, it could be jeopardized if local administrations continue to favor questionable projects that risk harming both consumers and SMEs. Unimpresa calls on the government to intervene and stop such initiatives, which threaten to disrupt the economic balance in Italy’s tourist ports.
