Shared reading: a tool for children’s well-being

In September 2024, an innovative project is launching to promote shared reading as a key tool for the well-being and healthy development of children aged 0 to 6 years. The initiative, called “Le Buone Abitudini,” involves key figures such as pediatricians from the Italian Society of Pediatrics, educators from Assonidi, and specialists from Nati per Leggere.

The main goal is to bring shared reading moments to nurseries and hospitals across Italy, offering children and their families resources to support cognitive and relational development. The project will also help families overcome critical situations by providing dedicated support through targeted activities.

Upcoming events

The first shared reading events will take place in Milan on September 19 at Familosophy Nursery and on September 20 at San Paolo Hospital. These events will kick off a series of activities that will continue across Italy until the end of the year, involving children, families, and professionals in the sector.

Scientific benefits of shared reading

National and international studies show that shared reading during early childhood offers numerous benefits. It stimulates language development, improves comprehension, and contributes to cognitive and relational growth. Additionally, it strengthens the relationship with caregivers, promoting better emotional regulation and empathy.

During the events, Nati per Leggere experts will engage children in educational and fun activities by reading classic children’s literature. Educational materials will be distributed with QR codes, allowing parents to access special content focused on tips for their children’s well-being.

Le Buone Abitudini: a campaign for awareness

The shared reading initiative is part of the broader “Le Buone Abitudini” project, launched in 2023 by Bing, the Italian Society of Pediatrics, and Assonidi. The project involves over 11,000 pediatricians and about 450 childcare centers across Italy, promoting good practices such as nutrition, outdoor play, hygiene, and healthy sleep for children.
