The importance of contract renewal

The Autonomous Prison Police Union (SAPPE) has issued an urgent appeal to the government regarding the renewal of the contract for the Prison Police and other police forces, which has been expired for three years. Although the Government has committed to finding the necessary resources, SAPPE emphasizes that these are still insufficient to cover the deficit in purchasing power, considering that real inflation has exceeded 13%.

The issue of dedicated pensions

SAPPE highlighted another critical point: the lack of a meeting to discuss dedicated pensions. Despite €70 million being allocated for this purpose, the meeting has not yet been convened. SAPPE’s general secretary, Donato Capece, has urged Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to find additional resources in line with the professional specificity of the security sector.

Wage and pension disparities

Capece also stressed the need to reduce the negative gap in supplementary pay between the Prison Police and other police forces. He reminded that the contract remains the fundamental tool for improving working conditions, such as working hours, professional training, and police officers’ rights.

Ready to mobilize

SAPPE reiterated that, in the absence of concrete responses, security professionals are ready to take to the streets to defend their rights. The lack of access to complementary pension schemes and administrative welfare has penalized those who enlisted after 1995, creating a disparity in treatment compared to other categories of public employees.
