The municipalities of Chieti and L’Aquila rank second and third in Italy for potable water dispersion, with losses reaching 70.4% in Chieti and 68.9% in L’Aquila. Only Potenza has a worse situation with 71% losses. Overall, Abruzzo is the second-worst region in Italy for water dispersion, with an average of 62.5%, compared to the national average of 42.4%.
The water emergency severely affects craft businesses in Abruzzo, especially those in manufacturing sectors with high water usage. There are 1,312 craft businesses at risk, employing over 4,000 workers. In total, there are 2,467 businesses in high water consumption sectors, involving nearly 29,000 workers.
During a meeting with Ersi and Aca in Pescara, Confartigianato Chieti L’Aquila reiterated the seriousness of the situation. Niki Sprecacenere, president of the Commerce category, highlighted the inadequacy of measures taken so far, emphasizing the disruptions caused by unscheduled water interruptions and the daily difficulties faced by families.
Camillo Saraullo and Daniele Giangiulli, president and general director of Confartigianato Chieti L’Aquila, have called for urgent action. Water dispersion is crippling businesses and creating severe difficulties for families. Immediate solutions are essential to improve the efficiency of Abruzzo’s water system, reduce losses, and ensure adequate service to users.
