The Swim for Parkinson, now in its fourth edition, is an initiative promoted by Fondazione LIMPE for Parkinson Onlus. The goal is to raise public awareness about this neurodegenerative disease and to collect funds for the Outdoor Project, which aims to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s through physical activity. Everyone can contribute at retedeldono.it/progetto/swim-parkinson-2024.

The benefits of physical activity

Numerous scientific studies demonstrate the benefits of sports training in slowing the progression of the disease and improving the psychophysical well-being of people with Parkinson’s. Group physical activity also helps create bonds, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Outdoor Project: beyond swimming

Fondazione LIMPE supports various motor activities throughout Italy. These include adapted dance, which improves coordination and balance, yoga to reduce rigidity and stress, and trekking to encourage contact with nature. Water sports like swimming, SUP, surfing, canoeing, and sailing also provide a therapeutic and relaxing experience.

Partners and supporters

The Institute for Sports Credit is the institutional partner of Swim for Parkinson. The initiative is sponsored by FIN, FINP, the city of Messina, and the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, and supported by Abbvie, Bial, Boston Scientific, Chiesi, and Zambon Italia. Special thanks go to Giovanni Arena and Nino Faziu for their contribution to the crossing.
