Milan, July 17, 2024 – The “Good Habits” project, born from the collaboration between Bing, the Italian Society of Pediatrics, and Assonidi, has presented the ‘Potty Training Decalogue’, which will be distributed to all Assonidi daycare centers this summer.

Summer and Potty Training: A Good Idea?

Summer seems like the perfect time to ditch the diaper: more time outdoors, fewer clothes, and more time with your children. However, pediatricians emphasize the importance of following the child’s readiness. Forcing potty training can be counterproductive if the child is not ready.

Bing, Kids’ Favorite Character, Supports Families

To support families through this delicate transition, Bing, the beloved character by children and their families, collaborated on creating a decalogue with potty training tips. This decalogue will be distributed to all Assonidi-associated childcare centers, the association of private daycare centers and preschools in Italy.

Pediatricians’ Advice

Dr. Elena Bozzola from the Italian Society of Pediatrics shares some fundamental tips:

  1. Pay attention to age – The ideal period for potty training is between 2 and 3 years old. The season matters little; it’s crucial to understand if the child is ready.
  2. Never force – Don’t force potty training due to school or family needs.
  3. Do not scold – Avoid pressuring the child and don’t scold them if they need more time.
  4. Observe the signals – Pay attention to signals like announcing the urge or trying to remove the diaper.
  5. Listen to the child – Focus on the child and don’t rely on ready-made “recipes” or advice found online.
  6. Be patient – Adopt patience, avoiding sprint programs that generate anxiety.
  7. Learn through play – Use playful methods, such as teaching the child to wet a rubber duck in the potty.
  8. Set a practical example – Place the potty in the bathroom and explain to the child what all those “vases” are for.
  9. Have confidence – Trust in the child’s abilities and applaud every progress.
  10. Seek advice – Consult the pediatrician in case of doubts or difficulties.
The Good Habits Project

The decalogue is part of the broader “Good Habits” project, a campaign to raise awareness and promote good practices for the healthy and happy growth of children, started in 2023 thanks to the collaboration between Bing, the Italian Society of Pediatrics, and Assonidi. The project involves over 11,000 pediatricians, about 450 childcare facilities, and hundreds of thousands of families with children aged 0-6.

On Bing’s website and through social media channels, graphics and materials with tips from the “Good Habits” project experts are available. Visit www.bingbunny.com to discover why using the potty… is a Bing thing!
